Akpanke, OBO Constituency and The 2025 Budget

By Adie Ikor On the 28th of February, 2025, President Bola Tinubu signed the N54.99 trillion 2025 budget into law, following its passage by the National Assembly. Although rumours suggest that some minor corrections are still being made to the appropriation act before its official hardcopy release, the signed copy is already in circulation, and constituents can access the documents to see what projects their representatives have facilitated. In Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku federal constituency, Rep Peter Akpanke has reaffirmed the trust his constituents placed in him by voting overwhelmingly for him in the 2023 general elections, despite being a member of the opposition. Initially, there were concerns that the constituency might have missed out on potential benefits by not re-electing the ranking member, who could have become a principal officer or chaired a key committee. However, Akpanke's performance has dismissed these doubts and showing that his constituents made the right choice...

Beyond the Criticism: Unmasking the Political Vendetta on Senator Eteng Williams

It’s been quite amusing observing self-styled critics driven by diverse motivations criticizing the Senator Representing Cross River Central Senatorial District barely twenty months in office.  I have identified them in three different categories. The first group comprises those who woefully lost the senatorial primaries and the only way to lick their wounds is to criticize the Senator from the very beginning, no matter what good he does. This group has now become popularly christened as “The Wailing Wailers” very much in disrespect of “Bob Marley and The Wailers” of the classical Reggae fame!  The second group includes those who believe that they are being objective by being seen as criticizing the Senator, they are guaranteed a surge in popularity, followers, and even financial support. The third and final group comprises those who criticize and tarnish his image because of their ambition. To them, the only way to power is to pull down another man.  I am forced to categ...
