78th UNGA: Humanitarian Affairs Minister, Dr Betta Edu participates in UN General Assembly

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr Betta Edu is among the delegation of Ministers and other top government functionaries led by President Bola Tinubu participating in the 78th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). This will be her first as a Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Dr Betta Edu is expected to play an expertise role and deliver recommendations on the global Multidimensional Poverty Index (MPI) measures on poverty reduction and provides information for policymaking which assesses poverty in various aspects of people’s daily lives, such as education, health, housing, and access to basic amenities to alleviate the humanitarian suffering of people who are still facing crises. United Nations Partners FG On Coordinated Approach, Durable Solutions To Humanitarian Crises In Nigeria

The United Nations says it welcomes the federal government's positions on a coordinated approach to handling humanitarian crises in Nigeria. The UN describes the approach as the best way to find durable solutions to the multi-dimensional humanitarian challenges facing the country,  saying it will partner with the federal government in that regard.  A UN Team led by the Special Adviser to the United Nations  Secretary-General on solutions to internal displacement, Mr. Robert Piper, made this known when he visited the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Dr. Betta Edu in her office. The Honourable Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation Dr Betta Edu who was received by the First Lady of Niger State, Hajiya Fatima Umar Bago during her One Day Working Visit in Niger, has assured the displaced persons in Niger State that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will provide a resettlement city for IDPs in Niger state as part of medium term plans to renew hopes of over 22,000 internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Niger state. The Nigerian Senate Representative to the 2023 Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference (IPU), Senator Asuquo Ekpenyong has stated that Nigeria is at the cusp of participating effectively and dominating the 4th Industrial Revolution.
