Immigration Officials Pay Courtesy Call on Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly

The Nigeria Immigration Service in Cross River State has express dissatisfaction over borders security and illegal migration of persons to Cross River State. Comptroller of NIS in the state, Mr James Ezugwu, disclosed this today the 9th day of September 2020 during a courtesy visit to the Speaker of Cross River State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams. Ezugwu explained that he is not trying to implicate anyone but the clan Head, village head and politicians are admitting foreigners through the backdoor. According to him, irregular migration and all forms of illegality along the Cross River State borders are managed by village head who are giving foreigners Nigeria documents free of charge. Officers Be Optimistic; Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill will soon be passed by the 9th National Assembly

A Bill for an Act to establish the Nigerian optimistic that the Nigerian Peace Corps (Establishment) Bill will soon be passed by the 9th National Assembly Peace Corps (NPC) jointly sponsored by the Chief Whip, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Monguno and Rt. Hon. Uzoma Abonta, was slated on the 23rd day of July, 2020 in the Order Paper at the House of Representatives for consideration/adoption by the Committee of the Whole. It is pertinent to state that the core mandate of the Bill which was earlier passed by the 8th National Assembly is to Develop, Empower and provide gainful employment for the youths to facilitate Peace, Volunteerism, Community Services, Neighbourhood Watch and Nation Building; and for other related matters.  The Bill is to give statutory backing to the already existing Peace Corps of Nigeria. COVID-19 should not obstruct Criminal Justice; Health Commissioner - Dr Edu

Since March 2020 Criminal Justice in the State has suffered some set back as the Correctional Service has been unable to admit new inmates into the facility. This was occasioned by the COVID-19 Pandemic as management of the Correctional center did not want a COVID-19 out break in the facility which might follow the introduction of a positive case into the facility which didn’t have an Isolation center. The fight against COVID-19 to ensure that cross riverians both old and young remain safe continues as the Cross River State Government through the Ministry of Health has successfully set up an Isolation Center amidst other necessary palliative supports in Afokang Prisons to check the health status of both the old inmates and the ones to be sent for custody to curtail the random spread of the virus from any infected inmate or intending inmate to another. CRS Min of Finance Secures $10M Grant as World Bank Verifies Cross River State Eligibility

  Independent Verification Agents (IVA) from the World Bank are in Cross River State for the verification exercise as part of the validating criteria of the World Bank State Fiscal Transparency, Accountability and Sustainability Programme for Results (SFTAS) a programme supported by the World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Ministry Finance and the Office of the Auditor General of the Federation which is aimed at improving transperency and accountability in governance for sustainable growth and development.
