Court Orders Police Not to Rearrest Crypto Entrepreneur

  By Asare Asare A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has ordered the Inspector General of Police not to rearrest cryptocurrency entrepreneur, Obol Jesam Michael, after failing to show cause why he should not be released. Michael was arrested over issues surrounding cryptocurrency and had been in police detention. However, he filed an action for the enforcement of his fundamental rights. In suit no. FCT/HC/CV/14/2024 and Motion No. FCT/HC/8W/M/139/2025, Honourable Justice M.A. Madugu of the High Court ordered his release on February 18, 2025. The judge further restrained the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 8th, and 9th respondents from rearresting or detaining Obol Jesam Michael without recourse to the court. The order for his release was duly served on the Inspector General of Police and all officers involved in the matter, but they refused to comply. Cooperative Society CEO Bags One Year for N2bn Fraud in Calabar

  Justice Rosemary Dugbo Oghoghorie of the Federal High Court sitting in  Calabar has  convicted and sentenced  the Chief Executive Officer, Micheno Multi-purpose Cooperative Society,  Uno Michael Eke to one year imprisonment  for conspiracy, obtaining property by false pretence and money laundering to the tune of N2 ,000,000,000.00 (Two Billion Naira) He was jailed after pleading guilty to four-count amended charges preferred against him by the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.   Hon. Cyril James Omini, the Member representing Yakurr 1 State Constituency at the Cross River State House of Assembly, has issued a warning to the public regarding a fraudulent Facebook account impersonating him. The fake account has been falsely claiming to offer ₦50,000 to 50 individuals. In a statement released today the 26th Day of September 2024, Hon. Omini clarified that the account in question is not associated with him and urged constituents and the public to disregard any such posts. "I want to make it clear that this account has no connection to me. I would never engage in such activities or solicit personal information or funds in this manner," he emphasized. EFCC Arrests 48 Suspected Internet Fraudsters in Umudike

  Operatives of the Uyo Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, have arrested forty-eight (48) suspected internet fraudsters in Umudike, Abia State. They were arrested on Friday,  August 30, 2024 at different locations within Umudike,  following actionable intelligence on their suspected involvement in internet fraud. Items recovered from them include 12 exotic cars,  15 different brands of laptops and 68  expensive smartphones. They would be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded. Police Parade Four Suspects Over Ritual Killing of 19-Year-Old Federal University Lokoja Student

By Gbenga Odogun   The Kogi State Police Command has paraded four suspects linked to the death of Damilola Olowoyo, a 19-year-old first-year student at the Federal University, Lokoja. The suspects, Jeremiah Paul, Emmanuel Otitoju, Banabas Olugbenga, and Ajayi Ayomide, were presented at the police headquarters in Lokoja on Friday. According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP William Aya, the prime suspect, Jeremiah Paul, lured the victim into the bush and killed her for ritual purposes. Aya explained that the police received a report about Damilola’s disappearance, which led the state Commissioner of Police to assign the case to the State Intelligence Department. Breaking: Hoodlums Attack Palliative-ladened NUJ Bus; Journalist, Others Injured

  Hoodlums have just attacked a bus, loaded with palliatives, belonging to Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Cross River State Council. The Pen Professionals, upon receiving information from the Director of Cross River State Emergency Management Agency (CR-SEMA), Rev. James Anam, as beneficiaries of the present phase of distribution, hurriedly moved to the government warehouse and successfully conveyed the food items. The palliative-ladened vehicle, enroute to the NUJ Secretariat, was attacked, about an hour ago, with hoodlums raining hales of stones on the slowly moving vehicle, carting away food items from the broken windows. Robber falls into well after raiding students hostel in Unicross

By Emma Una AN armed robbery suspect, simply identified by his nickname, Bob Jay fell into an open well on Friday night after he and other gang members raided student’s hostel in Unicross, Okuku campus. The robbers, according to a student of the school who gave her name as Regina, attacked students in their hostel at about 12 midnight and carted away laptops, phones and money and after the robbery,  one of the hoodlums fell into an open well while trying to escape with their loot. They were many that came around 12 midnight. They robbed all the students in the Okuku hostel.
