40 youths benefit from NGO's tech skills training

By Joseph Abasi-Abasi

A nonprofit organization, Women In Action for Positive Development and Gender Enhancement Centre, has conducted a training program for 40 graduates and undergraduates in Cross River State, focusing on Graphic Design, Data Analytics, Front-End Web Design, and Digital Marketing.

The founder and executive director, Professor Roibito Ekpiken-Ekanem, announced the partnership with Innocent Chukwuemeka Chukwuma Empowerment Foundation (ICCEF) to help close the technology gap by offering free digital training to youth.

Professor Ekpiken-Ekanem emphasized the importance of tech skills for personal and professional growth, stating that the Tech Skills Training Programme aims to tackle significant social issues among young people while promoting self-employment.

She explained that this program would equip participants with practical experience and knowledge in digital skills, foster creativity and collaboration, and lay a foundation for further study in the field.

Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, the wife of the Cross River State governor, supported the initiative through her Special Adviser for Administration, Dr. Comfort Okoh. She expressed enthusiasm for the training, highlighting its role in empowering young graduates and undergraduates with essential skills for navigating modern life.

She noted that many organizations prefer candidates with extra digital skills, which reflects the rationale behind the ‘Girls in STEM’ project initiated by her office.

She praised the sponsors and encouraged the trainees to make the most of this opportunity to become entrepreneurs.

Additionally, Ms. Ayo Olanrewaju, Programme Manager at ICCEF, provided insights into the foundation’s mission to create opportunities for peer learning and IT startups.

She urged participants to take advantage of the eight-week training to acquire skills that would enable them to actively engage in the global digital economy and generate wealth.

Several goodwill messages were shared from prominent figures, including Professor Franca Bassey, Vice Chancellor of the University of Cross River State; Majorie Eyo Asuquo, State President of the National Council Women Society; and Mrs. Ndodeye Obongha, Head of Programmes at Girls’ Power Initiative, among others.
