In Sierra Leone, where three-quarters of children miss out on preschool education, Evette, a trained Early Childhood Development (ECD) educator, stands as a beacon of hope. Through her creative approach, Evette teaches children literacy, numeracy, sounds, rhymes, and poems, incorporating singing and dancing to boost their cognitive and socio-emotional development.
UNICEF, with support from the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) and the Open Society Initiative for West Africa, has been working to make preschool education more accessible. They've constructed 59 ECD centers and trained over 560 pre-primary teachers, including Evette. The initiative aims to improve school readiness for over 306,000 young learners by 2027, helping to shape their future through early education.
Evette’s passion for playful teaching has transformed the learning environment, ensuring that children in her care not only learn but thrive.
