Cross River Special Adviser on Public Utilities Condemns Water Meter Vandalization, Calls for Heightened Security Measures
In an exclusive interview with a Detailing News correspondent, the Special Adviser on Public Utilities to the Governor of Cross River State, Engr. Dr. Jerome Egbe KSM, expressed concern over the ongoing vandalization of water meters belonging to the Cross River State Water Board Limited. This criminal activity has been labelled as disheartening and unacceptable by the Special Adviser, whose office is responsible for service delivery, infrastructure sustainability, community engagement, and public utility compliance.
Engr. Dr. Egbe, while addressing the issue, condemned the actions of the vandals and called on them to desist and support the state's development.
He emphasized the remarkable efforts of the amiable Governor, Sen. Sweet Prince Bassey Edet Otu, in revolutionizing Cross River State through the provision of critical infrastructure, noting that these efforts must not be undermined by criminal activities.
“We can no longer tolerate the reckless destruction of public facilities,” Engr. Dr. Egbe stated.
He called on security operatives across the state to be more vigilant and to arrest anyone caught in possession of unauthorized water board meters or other public infrastructure materials.
According to reports submitted to his office, significant vandalization of water meters has occurred in State Housing Estate and other parts of Cross River State, resulting in water supply leakages and disruptions to the Water Board’s ongoing Turn Around Maintenance (TAM) operations.
The Special Adviser urged the public not to purchase stolen water meters or other public utilities from these vandals, stressing that patronizing such goods only encourages further damage. He also assured the public that the Water Board is doing its best to meet the demand for clean and quality water, despite the setbacks caused by these criminal acts.
To ensure the continued efficiency and sustainability of public utilities in the state, Engr. Dr. Egbe announced plans to embark on a state-wide assessment of existing functional public facilities. This initiative is aimed at improving the quality of life for all residents by providing reliable and accessible utilities.
He concluded that the government has also reaffirmed its commitment to environmental sustainability, affordability, and the safety of public utilities, pledging to take all necessary measures to protect and enhance the public infrastructure that is essential to the state's progress.
