Chief Bassey Ikoi Leads Mass Defection to APC in Cross River State, Lauds Senator Eteng Jonah Williams' Developmental Strides

 



Several members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) today, September 9, 2024, at Mkpani-Agoi Ward, in Yakurr Local Government Area of Cross River State.


Leading the group of defectors was Chief Bassey O. Ikoi, the Obol Nkama 1 of Mkpani and a former PDP chieftain.


Chief Ikoi, along with a considerable number of his supporters, crossed over to the ruling APC, citing their growing admiration for the progressive strides made by APC leaders in the State. 


Particularly, he lauded the achievements of Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, who has been at the forefront of developmental initiatives in Central Senatorial District, including the empowerment of the youth, provision of scholarships, light up Central initiative, Healthcare Outreach and others.


"Senator Williams's accessibility and commitment to the people of Central Senatorial Districts are My key motivators for My decision to switch parties". 


According to him, the lawmaker has consistently demonstrated his dedication to improving the lives of his constituents, an effort that has gained widespread appreciation.


The defectors were received by Hon. (Dr.) Abubakar Efoli, APC Vice Chairman  Central, along with other APC stalwarts at both the state and local levels, welcomed the newcomers with open arms.


Describing their decision to defect as "wise," Efoli assured them of inclusiveness in the party’s affairs and expressed confidence that their contributions would further solidify APC’s standing in the state. 


He emphasized that the party would ensure that none of the new members would be left behind in the administration’s plans and political strategy.


Also Speaking, Capt. Eno Inah, the Commissioner for Aviation, also commended the defectors for their move. 


The commissioner congratulated the defectors, noting that he would personally convey the day's developments to Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, who would soon host the new members during his upcoming visit.


He expressed optimism that the defection would further strengthen the APC in the grassroots.


In separate remarks, other defectors echoed Ikoi’s sentiments, committing to work diligently toward boosting the APC's presence and influence at the grassroots. They promised to collaborate with the party leadership to ensure continued development and progress for the people of Yakurr, Central Senatorial District, State and Nigeria at large. 


Among the prominent figures present at the defection event were Major General Okoi Ubi Obono (Rtd), State Security Adviser to the Governor, APC Ward Chairman ably represented by his Vice, Jonathan Omini Jnr, a current chairmanship aspirant,  Ofem Ebri Obeten, a former Yakurr Local Government Chairman, current chairmanship aspirant Eno Ekapong Ofem and others.

C'River State sets aside Jan 27 for Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Cross River State Government has announced Saturday, January 27, 2024, between the hours of 7 am and 10 am as a day for environmental sanitation exercises across the state. The release signed by the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi stipulates that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except for those on essential duties.  He urged business owners and residents to partake in the cleaning and evacuation of waste around their surroundings during the hours of sanitation.  The release noted that defaulters shall be charged and tried by Cross River State Mobile Court.  Remember, a clean environment is everyone's business, together let's keep Cross River State Clean, green and serene.
