The Cross River State Government has hailed residents of Calabar Metropolis over their continuous conscious efforts in imbibing good hygiene and sanitation culture.
Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi who gave the commendation during the August 2024 edition of the statewide monthly Environmental Sanitation exercise, maintained that he was impressed at the level of compliance across the state which is a testament to who Cross Riverians truly represents.
Fielding questions from Journalists shortly after the routine enforcement of the exercise, Hon Osogi praised the good hygienical practices of residents through their active participation in the sanitation exercise and urged them to sustain the tempo in subsequent exercise.
" We appreciate Cross Riverians for the display of patriotism and support to our policy to restore the State. I urge them to keep up this good works. The exercise is gathering momentum at every edition and what we have seen today shows clearly that Cross Riverians appreciates cleanliness and are willing to support the government to succeed in this direction".
He posited that maintaining a clean environment is a must for all residents and appealed to residents not to relent in supporting the State Government's efforts in making the State habitable for those coming either for business and leisure.
Speaking on the level of preparedness by the State Government towards averting the impending disastrous flooding by the Federal Government, the Environment commissioner disclosed that the State Government had taken proactive steps in putting adequate measures to combat all intending flooding.
He informed the news men that his Ministry has carried out regular desilting and timely evacuation of waste especially in flood prone areas, while acknowledging communal efforts of Local Government Areas listed in the impending flood.
Speaking in separate interviews, residents of Calabar Metropolis applauded the State Government's resilience in providing a clean environment and promised not to thwart the State Government's efforts in keeping the state clean and green .
The Commissioner who was accompanied on the enforcement tour of the Metropolis by the Permanent Secretary of his Ministry Barr. Rosemary Onah and other Environment stakeholders frowned at members of the public who were seen loitering the streets, exercising, and trading during sanitation hours.
As at the time of filling this report, defaulters were apprehended, arraigned and prosecuted in the state's Mobile courts.
