The National Population Commission (NPC), in collaboration with UNICEF Nigeria, has launched a three-day training program for ad-hoc volunteers, registrars, and District Census Reporters (DCR) on Electronic Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (E-CRVS) birth registration in Cross River State. The event, held on July 29, 2024, marks a significant milestone in improving birth registration processes across 19 states in Nigeria.
In his welcome address, Rt. Hon. Alex Ukam, Honourable Federal Commissioner of NPC, expressed his pleasure and sense of responsibility in inaugurating the training program. He emphasized the importance of accurate birth registration for planning and development at all levels of governance.
"I extend a warm welcome to all participants, including NPC staff, instructors, and volunteer trainees," Ukam stated. "Your presence here demonstrates your dedication to nation-building and your commitment to enhancing birth registration statistics in our state and country."
Ukam commended UNICEF Nigeria for its unwavering support and collaboration, highlighting the organization's critical role in advancing an efficient and reliable birth registration system in Nigeria. He noted that the training program is designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to execute the E-CRVS birth registration effectively.
"This training is more than just a learning experience; it is a chance to contribute significantly to nation-building," Ukam encouraged the volunteer trainees. "Your performance in the field will determine future engagements with the Commission. We aim to store your information in our database for future interventions, including the forthcoming Census."
Addressing the NPC staff, Ukam noted their indispensable role in the training and urged them to provide the necessary support and guidance to the ad-hoc staffers. He stressed the importance of creating an enabling environment for a smooth and successful birth registration exercise across the state.
In conclusion, Ukam encouraged all participants to work as a team with dedication and a shared vision to achieve a better future for Nigeria's children and the nation at large.
