Cross River State Governor, Prince Bassey Otu, has congratulated the Canaan Queens, the players of the Canaan Table Tennis Club of Calabar, for their impressive performance in the recently concluded African Club Table Tennis Championship in Libya.
Governor Otu expressed his admiration for the team's doggedness and determination, which led them to the finals, where they finished as runners-up in a competition featuring top talent from across the continent. He conveyed his congratulations to the team via a video call, highlighting their exemplary representation of Nigeria and Cross River State on the international stage.
"Their performance in this continental tournament exemplifies the unwavering spirit of Nigerians,” Governor Otu said, adding that the Queens are worthy ambassadors of Cross River State. He emphasized the state's pride in their achievements and promised to support the Canaan Table Tennis Club of Calabar, as well as the two Olympians among them, who will represent Cross River, Nigeria, and Africa at the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France.
The Canaan Queens represented Nigeria and won their matches against Benghazi Al Jahdida of Libya and the Commercial Bank Club of Ethiopia in the Women's Team Semifinals, securing a spot in the finals against Petrojet Tennis Club of Egypt. They emerged as runners-up after a hard-fought match, losing to the Egyptian side with scores of 3-1, 3-1, 3-2.
