Governor Bassey Edet Otu: “We don’t need another hero”

“We don’t need another hero”, Is the title of an  iconic song written in 1976 by the late singer, Tina Turner(1939-2023). A part of the lyrics of the song goes thus: Out of the ruins, Out of the wreckage, Can’t make the same mistake this time; We are the children, The last generation,  We are the ones they left behind. And I wonder when we are ever gonna change, Living under the fear, ‘till nothing else remains.  We don’t need another hero, we don’t need to know the way home, All we want is life beyond Thunderdome.” This particular song talks about love and compassion and further espouses the need for fighting for one’s right and beliefs. Tina Turner tells us a story about the yearning for freedom by a people, far and away from a present dystopia and how a chosen hero comes along and leads his people to victory - in ‘Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome.’ From my perch,I can easily discern the comportment, determination and compassion of Senator(Prince)Bassey Edet Otu, the Governor that we volunt

Manchester United have claimed the FA Cup after a hard-fought 2-1 victory over arch-rivals Manchester City at Wembley. This win not only provides a silver lining to United's otherwise disappointing season but also secures them a spot in next season's Europa League. Despite finishing eighth in the Premier League, a significant 31 points behind champions City, United showcased resilience and tactical prowess in the final. Alejandro Garnacho opened the scoring for the Red Devils with a close-range strike in the 30th minute, capitalizing on a mix-up between City's Josko Gvardiol and goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Nine minutes later, Kobbie Mainoo doubled United's lead with a clinical finish. United could have extended their lead further when Marcus Rashford found the net, but the goal was disallowed due to Garnacho being offside in the buildup. City attempted a late comeback, with Jeremy Doku pulling one back in the second half. However, United held firm to avenge their defeat i

... Calls For Committee's Sack Heighten  By Obi Ojong An independent Verification Committee's investigation has revealed that the Cocoa Allocation and Regeneration Committee led by Cosmas Ebori Nku hid well over 500 hectares of cocoa plots for its own selfish interest.  It was also alleged that the committee engaged in all sorts of malicious and underhanded schemes to short change the landlord communities, government and the generality of Cross Riverians. Marginalization of Yakurr 2 in State Appointments Mirrors Cross River’s Federal Experience

Much like His Excellency, Senator Tinubu, has overlooked Cross River State in his allocation of appointments within the Nation, the Yakurr 2 constituency in Central Cross River is experiencing similar neglect under Senator Bassey Otu's administration. During the campaigns prominent figures in Central Cross River attempted to undermine Senator Eteng Jonah Williams, aiming to portray him as lacking substantial support within Central. Despite these efforts, Senator Williams proved his resilience by personally funding campaigns to bolster His Excellency's presence in both Central Cross River and Yakurr 2. However, the current state appointments reveal a glaring oversight, with the people of Yakurr 2 receiving little to no representation. Despite their dissatisfaction, the people remain silent, possibly out of fear of alienating the Governor or his close associates. This scenario parallels the grievances of the APC in Cross River State, which feels marginalized at the federal level
