Today, in commemoration of the 2024 World Health Day, we pay tribute to the establishment of the World Health Organization (WHO) on April 7, 1948, a pivotal moment following the Second World War that underscored the significance of global health.
The theme for this year, "MY HEALTH MY RIGHT," echoes the fundamental entitlement of every person to access high-quality healthcare, education, information, and vital resources like clean water and air. Regrettably, millions worldwide still grapple with inadequate health coverage, underscoring the pressing nature of this year's theme.
In Cross River State, guided by the astute leadership of Her Excellency Sen. Prince Bassey Edet Otu, strides are being made to ensure that every Local Government Area (LGA) boasts operational hospitals. Initiatives such as the establishment of General Hospital Ikom and the refurbishment of Cottage Hospital Oban epitomize our dedication to addressing the health demands of our populace.
Furthermore, our Primary Health Centers are undergoing refurbishments to bolster their capacity to deliver accessible and top-notch healthcare services across the state.
Access to superior healthcare is not a luxury but an inherent right. As we observe World Health Day, let us reaffirm our resolve to safeguard this right for every individual, regardless of location.
