_...Urges individuals, corporate organizations to emulate gesture_
The Special Adviser to Cross River State Governor on Sports Development, Mr Ekanem Ekpenyong, has commended the management of Francris Hotel and Suites for extending financial support to Rovers Football Club of Calabar.
Ekpenyong made the commendation when he facilitated a donation of N200,000 from Francris Hotel and suites to the management of Rovers Football Club, to motivate the team to win their home match against Madiba FC of Oshodi at the U.J Esuene Stadium, Calabar, on Sunday.
He said the gesture was a bold step towards sports development in the state.
Describing sports development as everyone's responsibility in view of its relevance to social stability and curbing youth restiveness, the SA called on individuals, groups and corporate organizations in the state to emulate the kind gesture demonstrated by Francris Hotel.
He added that the Senator Prince Bassey Otu's people first agenda is comprehensive and keen on engaging the teeming youth population by leveraging on sports, hence no stone would be left unturned in achieving this mandate.
Speaking shortly after the donation of the sum of N200,000 to the club, Managing Director of Francris Hotel and Suites, Mr Chris Nwagbo, said the gesture was part of the company's corporate social responsibility.
He said having been operating in the state for some couple of years, Francris Hotel and Suites has had a good working relationship with the Cross River State Football Association, which informed its decision to make the financial support to Rovers Football Club. According to the MD, it was a way of giving back to the society.
Receiving the donation on behalf of Rovers FC, the club chairman, Mr Ejen Ebam, thanked the management of Francris Hotel and promised that the team would justify the magnanimity by playing well to gain promotion to the nation's elite league, the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).
Meanwhile the game between Rovers FC vs Madiba FC ended 1:0 in favour of the home team.
