In a bid to continue promoting cleanliness and environmental sustainability in Cross River State, the Commissioner for Environment Hon. Moses Osogi has announced 30th March 2024 as statewide environmental sanitation for March.  He noted that business owners and residents are encouraged to participate in various cleanliness drives, and waste disposal activities, around their surroundings during the sanitation period.  Furthermore, restrictions on human and vehicular movements begin from 6:30 am to 10 am except for those on essential duties.  For emphasis residents are urged to actively engage in these monthly sanitation efforts, recognizing their role in fostering a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable future for generations to come. We have confirmed outbreak of measles in two schools in Calabar- Navy and Penniel primary schools. There are also reported yet to be confirmed cases in Akpabuyo LGA. The State Rapid Response Team has be activated and deployed to the affected LGAs. Reactive vaccination for children is ongoing in the affected LGAs. In LGAs where there are no reported cases, the State Primary Healthcare Development Agency is intensifying routine immunization to build up herd immunity.  Measles is a highly contagious infection especially among unimmunized children. Parents and care givers are encouraged to response positively to routine immunization campaigns for their children.
