The Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria Cross River State Command Patriot (Dr) Dominic Okweche Odey has performed the official decoration of the Commissioner, Ministry of Youth Development Cross River State, Barr. Odum Ijom Ukam as the Chairman of the Cross River State Peace Corps Advisory Council.
This pivotal event formally marks the beginning of partnerships between Peace Corps Command and the Ministry of Youth Development in the State.
The ceremony which was held inside the Conference room of the Ministry of Youth Development, was witnessed by the Permanent Secretary, top management staff of the ministry, and Peace Corps Council Members.
State Commandant, in his capacity, noted that the youth ministry is a Peace Corps Constituency and presented the customized Congratulatory Card with a Peace Corps medal, signifying the weight of the responsibilities the Commissioner now bears as Chairman of the Advisory Council.
The Commissioner resplendent in his decorations adorned with Peace Corps high office’s symbols, pledged his dedication to ensuring the voice of the organization is heard, and added that he will work with the Corps to achieve her needed status in Nigeria.
Barr. Ukam also salutes the courage, resilience, and dedication of the State Commandant of the Peace Corps of Nigeria and also urges officers to remain patriotic and redouble their efforts in the discharge of their duties.
He added that the Government of Prince Bassey Otu is a responsible administration that will continue to do the needful for the youths and all Cross Riverians.
According to the Commissioner, the Peace Corps has a role to play in nation-building and governance and they should be encouraged, to discharge their duties effectively in the state.
In a similar development, the state Commandant also congratulated the Clerk of the Cross River House of Assembly Mr. Dominic Akiba for his appointment.
Commandant who described Akiba as a man of many parts whose vast wealth of knowledge and experience remains unrivaled in Nigeria.
He noted that as a thoroughbred and seasoned career diplomat who served and grew in the rank, his appointment was “no doubt a round peg in a round hole”.
According to the Commandant, the Clerk will bring his wealth of knowledge to bear in the discharge of his new responsibility and in ensuring the traditions of the House are kept by all Honourable members and staff.
