UNICROSS Alumni President, Abeng re-elected Zonal Chairman PENGASSAN

The National President, University of Cross River State (UNICROSS) Alumni Association Comrade Eyam Abeng have been declared winner and returned re-elected as the Chairman, Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) Lagos Zone which comprises of Lagos , Ogun, Osun, Oyo, Ekiti, Ondo and Kwara states respectively.
The election and immediate inauguration which took place at the 7th Triennial Delegates Conference of PENGASSAN held on the 18th day of April, 2023 at Park Inn Hotel Abeokuta with about eighty (80) delegates present from different branches of PENGASSAN in Lagos zone.
Announcing the Results, the Returning Officer for the election Comrade Wale Ajayi, a Principal General Secretary of PENGASSAN Kaduna Zone, declared Comr. Eyam Abeng of NNPC Upstream Investment Management Services (NUIMS) Branch unopposed and returned elected after no further nominations was made for the office of the Zonal Chairman.
Excited by the development, members of Lagos zone were visibly seen in their numbers pouring encomiums, overwhelming cheers and chanting solidarity songs to usher the newly elected Chairman to the podium.
Other newly elected and inaugurated members of the Zonal Executive Committee (ZECOM) of PENGASSAN Lagos Zone includes: Comr. Ebiesuwa Segun of Chevron Contract (Vice Chairman), Comr. Oyibiru Tijani of OVH Energy (Zonal Secretary), Comr. Kemi Thomas of MPN Contract (Asst. Secretary) and Comr. Usman Umar of Total Energies EP emerged as Treasurer of the zone. Others are: Comr. Paul Ndolu of Chevron (Industrial Relations Officer), Comr. Ibekwe Akaniyene of MPN (Financial Secretary), Comr. Juliana Adenike of Prime 127 (PRO), Comr. Tunde Adeyinka of Total Energies Marketing (Zonal Auditor) and Comr. Nikki Duru of Shell who emerged as Chairperson Zonal PENGASSAN Women Commission.
In his acceptance speech, Comrade Eyam Abeng thanked members of the Association for the singular honour, support, trust and confidence repose on him by re-electing him to continue adding value to the Association. He noted that all the visible and numerous achievements in his first tenure was however despite the economic hardship occasioned by several natural and man-made disasters like Covid-19, Naira Redesign Policy, Multi Exchange Rate and the Russian - Ukraine War which impacted heavily on the oil sector globally.
He further assured members of Lagos zone to do his very best as usual to improve and consolidate on the achievements of his first tenure in office, advance issues of members' welfare and job security. He thanked the President of PENGASSAN world wide who doubles as the Trade Union Congress (TUC) President Comr. Festus Osifo, Elders of the Zone, Branch Chairmen and all members for the Association for the enabling environment to emerge victorious.
Comr. Abeng also used the opportunity to call on the incoming administration of Federal Government of Nigeria, industry regulators and Strategic Partners to see to the rapid completion of the ongoing rehabilitation of our local Refineries, gas infrastructure projects and speedy unification of Exchange Rates in the country.
Notable dignitaries present at the conference include: The Ogun State TUC Chairman, Comrade Lasisi Akeem, the General Secretary of PENGASSAN Comrade Lumumba Okumgbawa and past Chairmen of PENGASSAN Lagos Zone like: Comrade Segun Oyedel, Comrade (Venerable) S. F. Oginni, Comrade Abel Agarin, Comrade Nsek Samson as well as a host of other invited guests.
