Okoi Obono-Obla urges Central Senatorial District to Vote APC in the forth-coming elections

The Central Senatorial District has been appropriately described as the heartbeat of Cross River State. It is the artery that politically, culturally, economically, and socially connects the Northern and Southern Senatorial Districts of Cross River State together. The Central Senatorial District is the gateway linking West Africa with Central and East Africa. Indeed the West Africa component of the Transafrica highway projects is located in the Central Senatorial District. The APC federal government has impacted the Central Senatorial District in so many significant ways especially in infrastructural development since it came into power in 2015. Two of the most vital projects which the Federal Government has done in Cross River State for the past 40 years are located in the Central Senatorial District. Between 1999 - 2015, the Central Senatorial District was one of the strongest holds of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the country, consistently returning all the candidates sponsored by the PDP in all tiers of elections from the Federal, State, and local governments. However, despite this staunch and fierce support of the people of the Central Senatorial District for PDP, nothing was given to them in return. The PDP’s federal government even though it made so much money from the sale of crude oil left the two most vital infrastructures derelict and dilapidated. These are the Ikom bridge and the Ikom-Alesi-Ugep federal highway. Also the Ikom-Etung-Cameroon highway. This infrastructure inexplicably suffered benign neglect notwithstanding their being vital to the socio-economic development of this part of the country. The Ikom bridge is a gateway to Cameroon and would increase trade between Nigeria and the neighboring country. President Muhammadu Buhari of Nigeria and President Paul Biya of Cameroon, on 2nd November 2022, inaugurated a $44,000,000 bridge linking Nigeria to Cameroon. The bridge has two lanes and is located at the Nigeria-Cameroon border at Mfum Community in Etung Local Government Area of Cross River and Ekok Community on the side of Cameroon. The bridge replaces the over 70-year-old single-lane bridge over the Cross River at the Nigeria/Cameroon Border at Mfum/Skok and Joint Border Post. In the area of poverty alleviation and empowerment, the National Social Investment Programme of the APC federal government, is, directly and indirectly, impacting the lives of poor Nigerians from the Cross River State Central Senatorial District through its four cluster programs namely: the N-POWER Programme; the Government Enterprise and Empowerment Programme (GEEP); the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (NHGSFP); and the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme (CCT). Another project the APC federal government has gifted the people of the Central Senatorial District is the Federal Polytechnic, Ugep, Yakurr Local Government Area. In light of the above, I urge earnestly that the people of the Central Senatorial District massively and overwhelmingly vote for all candidates sponsored by the APC in the Federal and State elections taking place on the 23 February and 25 March 2023, respectively, thus: 1. Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu - President; 2. Senator Prince Bassey Edet Otu - Governor; 3. Rt Hon. Eteng Jonah Williams - Senate; 4. Honorable Dr. Alex Egbona - House of Representatives; 5. Dr. Mrs. Rev Mercy Akpama - Yakurr 11 State Constituency; 6. Cyril Omini - Yakurr One State Constituency. It is a basic principle in the conduct of the affairs of mankind that one good turn deserves another. @ Okoi Obono-Obla
