UNICAL VC lauds Federal Government Broadband Initiatives for Universities

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has commended the Federal Government through the Ministry of Communication and Digital Economy for selecting the university to be among the 18 higher institutions to benefit from the Broadband Initiatives for Universities. The Vice Chancellor said this while receiving the award letter presented to her on behalf of UNICAL, by the Minister for Communications and Digital Economy, Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami), FCIIS, FBCS, FNCS, in Abuja. The Federal Government initiative is for the provision of unlimited broadband on campus and 20 markets to be implemented by the National Communications Commission. The event which was held in Abuja, had 18 institutional VC’s across the federation in attendance to receive the award. Prof. Obi on behalf of her university, received the institution award as part of batch 1. The Initiative was initiated by Prof. Pantami to promote learning. However, the approval heeded a memo presented by Pantami before the Federal Executive Council chaired by President Muhammadu Buhari on 11/November/2022. The Minister had directed the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) to implement the project and ensure high-quality and timely completion in Buhari's administration.

C'River State sets aside Jan 27 for Environmental Sanitation Exercise

The Cross River State Government has announced Saturday, January 27, 2024, between the hours of 7 am and 10 am as a day for environmental sanitation exercises across the state. The release signed by the Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Environment, Hon. Moses Osogi stipulates that movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except for those on essential duties.  He urged business owners and residents to partake in the cleaning and evacuation of waste around their surroundings during the hours of sanitation.  The release noted that defaulters shall be charged and tried by Cross River State Mobile Court.  Remember, a clean environment is everyone's business, together let's keep Cross River State Clean, green and serene.
