2023 Yala LG Chair : Hon Francis Ulakom indicates interest, believes his ambition is a surefoot for consolidated success

One of the most consistent political figures in party politics since 1992, Hon Francis Ikade Ulakom has signaled his desire to serve the good people of Yala Local Government Area as Chairman.

Hon Ulakom parades a rich profile clad with an emblem of experience honed over the years as a politician, administrator and community leader. The political  guru of no mean repute is highly educated and  hails from Wanikade in Yala Local Government area of Cross River State. He is a grassroot politician who has impacted greatly over the years on the political consciousness of the Ukelle people.

In the 80s, he led a powerful movement in Ukelle known as "BOKAAT LIKE" (unity is strength). Through this movement  issues of community development, peace and unity were inculcated into the psyche of Ukelle people. This movement spurred several meetings in all  the Wards of Ukelle and the spirit of self help in areas of road construction in rural areas, education and active political participation became major points of advocacy.

With the political awareness created by this great movement, Hon. Francis lkade Ulakom was unanimously elected as the first vice-chairman of Yala LGA from 1991 to 1992 with senator Gregory Ngaji as chairman. While in office, Hon. Francis lkade Ulakom facilitated the appointment of Ukelle sons and daughters from North to South Ukelle into Yala council. Mini contracts such as culverts and laterite were awarded to majority of Ukelle people to enhance their finances. Hospitals, Clinics and schools were renovated to improve the standard of health and education facilities.

At the end of his tenure in 1992, Hon. Ulakom went back to his teaching profession  and efficiently headed some secondary schools with far reaching impact .  Heading these schools lend credence to his administrative prowess as he retired from public service in 2018.

To enhance the advancement of the education of  Ukelle children, Hon. Ulakom as fondly called  in 2005 established a standard secondary school in Wanikade. Through this institution many Ukelle children were able to obtain their secondary school certificates (SSCE) in both  art and science with ease. In fact,he subsidized the school fees to enable the less privilege to acquire the basic SSCE certificate.

Having achieved deep political and educational achievements over the years, it is certain that he will perform brilliantly  if given the opportunity to serve as chairman of Yala LGA in the Local Government elections scheduled for 2023. If elected, he would holistically focus on Education, Agriculture, health and rural development.

The homegrown political figure can consolidate on many fronts. He is  a surefoot as  Local Government Chairman because of his  experience as a politician who has made sacrifices in serving his people within the party and across Ukelle land.
