The French political philosopher, Montesquieu, once said: "The tyranny of a prince is not so dangerous to the public welfare as the apathy of a citizen in a democracy."
Montesquieu’s premise has become more important given the political situation building up to 2023, where the masses will elect leaders to represent them in different political positions.
For the sake of particularism, may I limit my scope to just the Boki II State Constituency, where aspirants are increasingly joining the political ballroom to jostle for who represents the constituency in the State legislature. Interestingly, one name that rings a bell is that of Comrade Victor Ofum Agbor.
Comrade Victor Ofum Agbor, whose life of service to the people of Boki and the State at large has drawn eloquent plaudits from even his opponents; his decision to join the fray, which is a humble response to the hue and cry of the people of Boki II, comes with a glimmer of redemption and an inkling of imminent positive impact — as has always been with predecessors of the position.
There will be a change of baton in 2023. Boki II cannot afford to sacrifice meritocracy and hope on the altar of chauvinistic inclinations. Comrade Victor Ofum Agbor represents the succession that is needed in the Boki II State Constituency.
With 2023 upon us, we must not submit to the mistakes that will reduce our constituency to a mere office with no significant legislative deliverables to show for. Dear stakeholders, party men and women and constituents of Boki II, as we contrive ways of choosing who to represent the good people of Boki II, let us think of Comrade Victor Ofum Agbor as a potent alternative for the Boki II legislative seat.
Comrade Victor Ofum Agbor — the hope of the Boki II people.
