Cross River-born business tycoon, Engineer Nsa Ekpenyong, Wednesday, gifted the All Progressives Congress (APC), Cross River State a 32-seater 2022 model Toyota Hiace Bus in a bid to enhance the party’s ‘political evangelism.’
Speaking at the presentation of the glamorous gift, Engr. Ekpenyong stated that the car is in appreciation of the giant industrialization strides of Governor Ben Ayade and to enhance the APC’s progressive course in the State.
In his words: “As a Cross Riverian, looking at the industrialization strides the present administration, I deemed it necessary and pertinent to support the government of the day.
“After circumspectly following what the governor is doing since 2015, out of love, I was astonished by his simplicity and granting me audience of about 45 minutes, explaining the importance of industrialization, vision of the deep seaport and other sundry matters. And as a mariner and industrialist, I know that the viability of the numerous industries is changing the economic fortunes of the State.”
The oil and gas magnate, who reiterated that it was in appreciation of what Governor Ayade has been doing that he gifted the APC in the State with the 40 million naira vehicle, also stressed on the need for effective propagation industrialization vision the present administration.
Donating a whooping five million naira for the day-to-day running of the party, two million naira for fueling the bus and one year wages for the driver of the vehicle as add-ons, the maritime giant espoused on the pertinence for citizens to support governments at various levels for the overall weal of the people.
Accepting the gifts, the State Chairman of the APC, Barrister Alphonsus Eba expressed great pleasure at the magnanimity of the donor, describing him as “a youth who has displayed high level capacity.”
The APC chairman thanked Engr. Ekpenyong for the ‘unprecedented’ support to the party and most importantly, his unwavering solidarity for Governor Ayade-led administration.
Speaking further, Barr. EBA said the donor’s audacious display of commitment to the party would set a precedent for other politicians to emulate.
“Engr. Ekpenyong’s visit today has given us ample reasons to believe that we have a young man to trust. I urge you to listen to him and keep an eye on him. Like the biblical voice of God… this is our beloved son, in whom we are well pleased. He would become the light which will illuminate our political party,” Eba remarked.
The party chief assured Engr. Ekpenyong of putting the vehicle into judicious use, combing the nooks and crannies of the 3, 281 polling units in Cross River, aiming for victory in 2023 and the total annihilation of any opposition in the State.
Also speaking, the State Commissioner for Foreign Affairs and friend of the donor, Mr. Timothy Udam described Engr. Ekpenyong as a good man who has identified with direction of the present administration and constantly been in support of both the government and party.
In his vote of thanks, the Deputy Chairman of the party, Prince Eka Williams said the APC and indeed the society need young, ebullient, vibrant, industrious and visionary personalities like Engr. Nsa Ekpenyong, who is a source of pride for the youths and a character who is worth imitating.
Describing the donor as a friend of the party, Williams prayed him to remain closer to the party, while expressing the party’s willingness to always welcome him at every beck and call.
The huge crowd that greeted the event made a passionate call on the donor to run for the governorship position of the state, insisting that his public persona could contribute to furthering the monumental strides already recorded by the present administration.
The businessman and philanthropist was accompanied on the visit by a high profile delegation made up of, notably, the Commissioner for Gas Development, Hon. Saviour Nyong, Commissioner for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Timothy Thomas Udam, the Chairman, Governing Council, University of Cross River, Dr. Emil Inyang, Managing Director of Summit Hills, Mr. Bobby Ekpenyong, among others.
