2023 PRESIDENCY: WHY OSINBAJO IS THE BEST FOR NIGERIA

Going by the above, our dear country falls short of leaders who perfectly fit such definition. We have somewhat not-so-good leaders, and some not-so-bad ones too. UNICAL marks World Theatre Day with inmates

  The Department of Theatre and Media Studies, University of Calabar, has Sunday marked the 2022 World Theatre Day with inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service in Calabar. The department donated toiletries to the inmates to boost their hygiene in the center. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the World Theatre Day is celebrated on every March 27 and the theme of this year’s event is, “Theatre and a culture of peace”. The visit was a collaboration between the department and her Theatre Alumni. In a speech, the Head of Department, Dr Liwhu Betiang, said that theatre is unique because it uses human communication. According to Betiang, theatre helps humans to interact with their neighbours and make meaning with humanity. “Theatre entertains us, moulds us, shapes us and gives us the beauty of life. “We are very happy for coming here to identify with you the inmates because you have been part of the theatre system,” he said. NYSC DG seeks stakeholders’ support for trust fund

Maj.-Gen. Shu’aibu Ibrahim, Director-General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has called on Nigerians and relevant authorities to support the actualization of the NYSC Trust Fund currently before the National Assembly. Ibrahim made the call in his address presented by the NYSC Coordinator in Cross River, Mr Zemoh Andrew, during the swearing-in ceremony of the 2022 Batch 'A' stream Il corps members. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the swearing-in was held on Wednesday at the NYSC orientation camp in Obubra local government area, Cross River. The Director-General said that the actualisation of the fund will enhance the smooth operation of the scheme and boost its skills and entrepreneurship development programme. Peace Corps National delegates, State officials, political class, others attend Clement Odey's funeral

Deputy National Commandant Planning, Prof. Edet Ekpenyong, former commissioner of information, Asu Okan, Nassarawa, Delta and Akwa Ibom Commandants, on Friday in Cross River State,  attended a Funeral Service for late chief Clement Okweche. Speaking shortly after the burial ceremony, the National Commandant, Peace Corps of Nigeria, Prof. Dickson Akoh ably represented by Prof. Edet Ekpenyong explained that the sage left when his family, community, and the society at large needed his useful contribution in building humanity and peaceful coexistence the most. UNICAL suspends Director of Human Resource over age falsification

  The Director, Directorate of Human Resource and Establishment, (HR&E) University of Calabar, Mrs. Agatha Ikposhi has been suspended from duty. The suspension as contained in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe is consequent upon her unsatisfactory response to allegations of falsification of age, records of service and defrauding of the Federal Government of Nigeria levelled against her by an alumnus of the University. According to the suspension letter, Management, in line with the provisions of the Public Service Rules has directed that Mrs. Agatha Ikposhi be placed on suspension with effect from Wednesday, 16th March, 2022 and the matter referred to the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) for further investigation. UNICAL gets new Librarian

  The University of Calabar Governing Council has appointed Prof. (Mrs) Aniebiet Inyang Ntui as the new librarian of the institution. The appointment conveyed in a letter signed by the University Registrar, Mr. Gabriel Egbe, takes effect from February 24, 2022 and is for a period of five years. According to the letter, the appointment came on the heels of her success at the interview conducted on Thursday, February 24, 2022. The letter also states that the University Governing Council approved the recommendation of the selection Board, hence the appointment of Prof. Mrs Aniebiet Inyang as the University librarian. It further states that, as the University librarian, she will be responsible to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Florence Banku Obi for the administration of the University library.

UNICROSS : Governing Council Intervenes In Alumni Crisis, Resolves To Conduct Fresh Elections

  The over three years old crisis brewing in the University of Cross River State (UNICROSS), Alumni Association is finally coming to an end following the intervention of the Governing Council of the University.  The council, on Tuesday, March 1st invited both factions to a meeting at the council Chambers in the University's main campus with a view to finding lasting solutions to the issues. The meeting which was presided over by the Council Chairman, Dr. Emil Inyang resolved that in the interest of peace, both factions should sheath their swords for a fresh election that will be acceptable to majority of the alumni.  Recall that the association has been enmeshed in crisis since the national convention that produced Comrade Eyam Abeng in 2019.
