The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has charged commercial banks handling the undergraduates’ registration to be civil and polite in dealing with the students.
Prof. Obi gave the charge when she addressed the bank officials and other service providers in the institution.
She said the call became imperative, following incessant complaints by students, alleging ill-treatment from most bank officials.
She said the conduct of a few banks might be contributing to students missing lectures and assignments and placing undue pressure on them as the registration deadline drew near.
Obi charged the banks and other service providers to make their presence positively felt in the institution, adding that “for some, there is poor or no visible corporate presence”.
She called on them to support the university, considering its large population and potential benefits they stood to derive in the long run.
In a remark, the university’s Acting Bursar, Mr Joseph Odum, called on the banks to enlarge their payment platforms to accelerate the process of students’ registration.
In their responses, the representatives of the banks and service providers pledged to improve on the quality of their services.
They urged the university management to organise a sensitisation and orientation forum, where students would be advised on ways to make payments in future with ease. (NAN)
