UNICAL VC commissions research laboratory, commends UNHCR ......VC offers scholarships to 10 Cameroonian refugees

  The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees [UNHCR} in Nigeria have been commended for donating an Infectious Diseases Research Laboratory to the University of Calabar. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, who gave the commendation shortly after commissioning the Research Laboratory at the Department of Medical Microbiology and Parasitology, Faculty of Basic Clinical Sciences, expressed appreciation to UN Refugee agency for the kind gesture. Prof.Obi who described the development as a ‘dream come true’ said Unical had over the years craved for a Research laboratory but was not feasible. The University helmsman said the laboratory will promote medical research and assured UNHCR that the institution would put the laboratory into good use. UNICAL seeks support from South Korea Embassy to host NUGA Games in 2023

  The University of Calabar has sought the support and partnership of the South Korean Embassy in Nigeria in the area of building of indoor sports centre as the University prepares to host the Nigerian Universities Games (NUGA) in 2023. Vice-Chancellor of the University, Prof. Florence Obi, who visited the Korean Embassy in Abuja, told the Korean Diplomat that all necessary arrangements by the University to host the NUGA games in 2023 was on course. The VC presented the design of the indoor sports centre to the Ambassador. South South Zonal States Support the creation of a special revenue status for Cross River State

  The Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Commission recently commenced zonal hearings across the country in line with its constitutional mandate to “review revenue allocation formula and principles from time to time to conform with changing realities.”  The focus of the current hearings, as provided by the Commission, is on vertical allocation which focuses on the revenue sharing formula strictly between the 3 tiers of the executive, namely, Federal, State, & Local Government authorities. The current formula allocates approximately 52.68% of revenues to the Federal Government, 26.72% to the states, and 20.60% to Local Government councils. Security: UNICAL VC seeks partnership with Nigerian Air Force

   The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has sought the partnership of the Nigerian Air Force in Calabar in the area of security provision for the institution. Obi said this on Monday in Calabar when the Commander of 305 Special Mobility Group, Air Commodore Garba Jibia, paid her a courtesy call in her office. She said that the university was facing security challenges, ranging from kidnapping of staff and students, stealing on campus among others, hence the need to collaborate with the military for enhanced security. I've been a close admirer and an ardent follower of Dr Betta Edu right from her days as Director General of the Cross River State Primary Health Care Development Agency. She has proven to be more than a leader and one who have refused to rest until her fellow Youths succeeds. After losing out of my numerous job search, i decided to pick the Air force form, immediately that was done i had only one person in mind. On account of Governor Ben Ayade's determination to prioritize investments in capital expenditure and reduce operating expenditure spending, BudgIT, a civil tech organisation  that strives to make public data and budgets more comprehensible to the public, has rated Cross River State high in its 2021 State of States report. Dr Betta Edu, the Commissioner for Health in Cross River, has described the approval  of Malaria Vaccine by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as “a positive step forward for the entire world.” Edu told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Calabar that Malaria had killed many people more than HIV/AIDS, COVID-19 and many other diseases.   She said that scientists have been searching for vaccines for malaria over the years but have not been able to get a major breakthrough.
