UNICAL VC urges new students to shun illegal practices

  The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has urged newly admitted students of the institution to shun all forms of illegal practices that are capable of truncating their future. Prof. Obi stated this at the 2020/2021 freshmen orientation exercise held at the institution's International Conference Center. The VC assured the students that her administration won't let anyone harass them, adding that she will protect their rights and privileges. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Obi, has held a thanksgiving mass in her honour to dedicate her emergence as the first female and 11th substantive VC of the institution to God. The thanksgiving mass was held in her home town of Bansan community, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Boki local government area, Cross River State. POLIO CAMPAIGN: STATE MOBILIZATION TEAM PAYS ADVOCACY VISIT TO C’RIVER SUBEB

UNICAL signs MoU with MTN for provision of internet services on campus

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has signed a memorandum of understanding between the university and MTN to enhance internet services in the institution.  The move by the Vice Chancellor marks the beginning of a paradigm shift in the area of telecommunications and internet services in the University of Calabar.  According to Dr Adie Edward of the Faculty of Arts, "the Vice Chancellor was highly elated that this giant stride has been achieved under her administration because activities such as internet browsing, phone calls, SMS, ATM, POS etc will happen with relative ease and speed as soon as this very important project is concluded". Accordingly, the VC expressed happiness with the Dean of Arts, Prof Stella Effa Atoe and the entire Faculty for initiating a laudable move of putting ICT and digitalization on a speed lane in the university, just as she promised to drive the project to a logical conclusion in no distant time. 

UNICAL commences construction of new lecture halls

  The University of Calabar has commenced massive construction and rehabilitation work on the lectures halls on campus with a view to create more learning classrooms for students. The construction work is ongoing in PAV1, PAV2 and PAV3 respectively. The old structures are been demolished for the construction of better classrooms for students' comfort. While inspecting the work, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, said that the objective of the construction of the massive classrooms was to create more spaces for the students to attend their lectures conveniently. According to the VC, one of the major challenges faced by students of the institution was that of comfortable classrooms, hence the management's decision to embark on the construction of more classrooms to accommodate the students. She disclosed that the new design for the lecture halls, which will come in storey buildings, will have students convenience, office spaces and relaxation

    The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rep. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar, Prof. Florence Banku Obi, has commended the MBBCH Class of 2000 for renovating and equipping a Meeting Hall in the College of Medical Sciences. Prof. Obi who gave the commendation while commissioning the Meeting Hall in the College of Medical Sciences appreciated them for giving back to their Alma Mata. UNICAL security arrest impostors for inciting students for protest

  The internal security operatives of the University of Calabar has arrested one Okon Okon Jacob, who is not a student of the University of Calabar for inciting students to stage a protest in the school over increased in school fees. Okon Okon Jacob, who said he is a graduate of an unknown College of Education, got entrance into the University with other youths who were not students of UNICAL to stage the protest. Student Union Government President, James Ugah, said that their attention was drawn to the activities of the group on campus.
