World Hepatitis Day; Every 30 Seconds Someone Dies Of Hepatitis

  There are Five main strains of the Hepatitis Virus which are A, B, C, D and E. Together, Hepatitis B and C are the most common cause of deaths. This Article will be looking at the Viral Hepatitis B and C. Viral Hepatitis is a major global health problem with more than 400 million patients chronically infected, causing over 1.4 million deaths per Year globally. Its prevalence varies throughout the World, but is highest in the Tropical Regions. It is estimated that 5-15% of Adults in Sub-Saharan Africa are chronically infected with HBV. There is a 15-25% risk of dying prematurely in Adulthood from HBV-related Cirrhosis and Hepatocellular Carcinoma, while a small proportion of those with acute infections may also succumb to fulminant liver failure. Nigeria contributes significantly to the global burden of chronic viral Hepatitis with the prevalence rate of 8.1% for Hepatitis B and 1.1% for Hepatitis C.   The University of Calabar has been ranked the fifth best University in Nigeria by the AD Scientific Index, a leading global ranking body based in Turkey. The ranking is coming eigth months after Prof. Florence Banku Obi assumed leadership as the Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar. According to the ranking contained in the list of 2021 ‘World Scientists and University Rankings,’ UI, UNN, and UNILORIN came as the best three universities in Nigeria based on the quality of their scientists. AD Scientific Index stated that the University of Ibadan ranked 19th in Africa and 1,350 in the world, while the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, occupied the 25th spot on the continent and 1,522 globally. CRS 2021 PROPOSED REVISED BUDGET SCALES SECOND READING

  By Itam Offor The State 2021 proposed Revised Budget has passed through second reading on the floor of the House of Assembly. The said proposal seeks to review the Budget downwards from N281,990,230 to N237,244,815,286 showing a variance of N44,746,164,944 representing 15.86%. The House resolved to review the Budget after the Leader, Rt Hon. Peter Odey (Ogoja) presented a report requesting the downward review to reflect the State's actual budget peformance and improve it's sustainability index as well as alleviate social tension and problems particularly hunger and poverty. According to Odey, the 2021 Appropiation Recurrent Revenue of N90, 690,851,598 is maintained adding that the expected revenue from Statutory Allocation, VAT, Internationally Generated revenue (IGR) remain same. Unless it is after something or something is after it.  A recent video of the Governor of Rivers State, widely shared, points to the fact that all is not well within the PDP family in the South South.
