The Special Adviser to the Governor on Cocoa Development and Control, Ntufam (Dr.) Oscar Ofuka, recently extended his philanthropy to street kids (Skolombo) and an orphanage as part of activities to mark his birthday in Calabar.
Expressing gratitude to God for the gift of life, good health, bountiful blessings and other niceties of life, the Bendeghe-Ekiem-born politician noted that he deemed it necessary that this year's anniversary of his birth (13th May) culminated with reaching out to the needy in the society.
Ntufam Ofuka, who treated hundreds of kids to a sumptuous meal and other assorted gift items at their popular rendezvous in front of the Cultural Centre Complex, also advised them to shun crime, drug abuse and all other vices capable of distorting the moral fabric of the society.
The Cocoa Development and Control boss also expressed excitement and a sense of fulfilment at the sight of beaming smiles on the kids' faces, adding that “I can never be satisfied just celebrating with my family and friends alone. That is why I came to wine and dine with you because you all important. Just like my boss, the governor believes that no child should go to bed without food, I think of you people every time."
Continuing, he quipped: “This is why I decided that I would celebrate my birthday with you people here today, and I want you to know that the government of governor Ben Ayade will continue to do more to make life easier for everyone in the state.
“Do not under any circumstances indulge in crime. I know that hunger can make you want to steal but you must resist such negative tendencies. Focus on your endeavours and you will become successful tomorrow”.
At his next point of call, the Infant Jesus Motherless Home, after gifting the centre with noodles, detergents, toiletries, sanitary materials and cash donations, the philanthropist called on the Children at the Orphanage to pray for peace and stability of the nation, while adding that without peace, there cannot be any meaningful development.
"I want you to pray for peace in Nigeria, this is the only country we have, if there is war, there cannot be growth and development, in your little corner, in your prayers, always remember Nigeria," he admonished.
In her response, the Reverend Sister in Charge of the Motherless Home, Reverend Sister Christiana Chinemerem lauded Dr. Ofuka for his benevolence and called on other well-meaning individuals to emulate such humanitarian and philanthropic gestures.
