The Commissioner for Information and Communication Technology, Barrister Joseph Abang has called on Cross Riverians and residents of the State to take advantage of the efficient machinery of his Ministry to harness the abundant opportunities that abound on the cyberspace.
The ICT Commissioner, who made the call during a recent interview with journalists in his Office in Calabar, stated that a lot of openings like scholarship and study programmes abound, quipping that “we must avail ourselves of such important information by visiting the competent ICT laboratories in the Ministry.”
“Recently, I hosted the American Consulate, together with the Commissioner for Quality Education, Dr. Godwin Amanke, where pilot schools from Cross River and Akwa Ibom States were being trained to utilize the abundant opportunities that abound globally through the internet. And I am glad to say that about six children of Cross River origin are now enjoying free education abroad. We also have an American Corner here at the Ministry where information on scholarship, education and a host of other opportunities,” the Commissioner revealed.
Continuing, the former Attorney-General of the State added: “I want to see a computer village spring up in the Ministry. I would have loved a situation where the entire complex is filled with children preparing for JAMB, WAEC, etc, and even undergraduates, come to utilize our laboratories. We have technicians and tutors who the are on ground to train them on basic ICT tools and their usage, positioning them in a digital world where you can only be relevant when you are ICT-compliant.”
Barr. Abang who boasted that his Ministry is replete with both the manpower and paraphernalia to bring the State up to speed with the digital age, assured of deepened collaboration with the Ministry of Quality Education and other relevant agencies in a view to achieving ICT education for all in Cross River State.
