The Vice Chancellor of University of Cross River State, Professor Augustine Angba, has received the title of Eminent Peace Ambassador from the United Nations International Association of World Peace Advocates.
He received the title in his office today when a delegation of the International Association of World Peace Advocates paid a visit to him. The Association is a World Class Organisation with United Nations Economic and Social Council Special Consultative (ECOSOC) status.
The International leader of the Association, Ambassador (Dr) Emmanuel Nkweke, explained that the Vice Chancellor's antecedents as an advocate of peace makes him unquestionably worthy of the title of Eminent Ambassador of Peace. He said: "We have been following your activities even before you became the substantive Vice Chancellor of this university. The World Peace Advocates is proud of you and we are interested in partnering with your university on issues of sustainable goals in this university. We want to tell the world how important University of Cross River State is, as a centre of peace. The award we have conferred on you here today will definitely make University of Cross River State to be announced to the international community."
Ambassador Nkweke said that the International Association of World Peace Advocates is made up of experts in anything that has to do with sustainable development goals.
In this regard, he said that the Association is willing to partner with the university's management to encourage staff and students to benefit from the United Nations' initiatives on volunteerism.
Meanwhile, Professor Angba thanked the Association for bestowing the title on him and described it as a challenge that invites further work for peace. He said: "It is only God that gives peace. We are just an instrument that God uses to foster peace on the surface of the earth. No nation can grow without peace. Students and staff stand to benefit from this award. We are going to ensure that our students are also part of the United Nations global learning platform."
The conferment of the title of Eminent Ambassador of Peace was witnessed by Professor Joy Etiowo, Vice Chancellor (Academics) and Professor Mary Eyo, Vice Chancellor (Administration), respectively.
It is expected that members of the International Association of World Peace Advocates will return to University of Cross River State in the next one month to do the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals Flag hoisting ceremony.
According to Ambassador Nkweke, the university will be officialy programmed to the United Nations' Online Sustainable Development Goals learning center after that ceremony.
This development will fully digitalize the university's library in line with Professor Angba's vision to make the university more globally competitive.
