The Director General of the Cross River State Primary Healthcare Development Agency Dr Janet Ekpenyong has felicitated with the first female Vice Chancellor Of the University of Calabar, Professor Florence Obi describing her as a "Staid" and "strong willed" Academician.
In a message she signed and made available to the public,Dr Ekpenyong described the new Vice Chancellor as an Erudite Scholar whose hardwork and landmark achievements in areas of research over the last 30 years have paid off with this historic elevation to the post of the Vice Chancellor and the first woman to occupy the exulted office.
She further wished her a smooth 5 years at the seat of power piloting the great afffairs of the University while also charging younger girls to follow the footpath of the renowned Professor to actualize their goals in life.
The statement reads:
"Congratulations to one of the most illustrious daughters of the great Boki nation,you have shown balance between your work and the management of family , undoubtedly that has been a great motivation to your elevation to the position of a vice chancellor of the famous University of Calabar.
About 30 years ago when you started your career in the University Community as a graduate assistant,one never imagined that it will be a glorious end,rising from lower Vader to this meritorious position you occupy now,every young woman would have been contended serving in that position especially at a time when only few women were committed to self development and capacity building, against all odds you rose to the rank of a professor and with the level of commitment and deligence shown in your duties,you gained the trust of your colleagues and emerged as the first woman to lead the prestigious University of Calabar after about 45 years of the institution's establishment".
"Your records as Head of Department,Dean of faculty as well as Deputy vice chancellor speaks for itself as great transformation were recorded in every area you served,it is on this note that I will authoritatively say that,in the next couple of years,you will transform the University of Calabar from a "Guant" institute to a more "Flourishing" citadel of learning".
It is an opportunity for younger women to follow their dreams as you have inspired millions across the world including my humble self".
