World Aids Day; DG SACA Attends Jumat Service To Create More HIV/AIDS Awareness/Sensitization To The Moslem Family
In preparation for December 1st which is always set aside as the World Aids day, the Cross River State Director General for the State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA) Dr Etcheri Ansa has taken HIV/AIDS awareness/sensitization campaign exercise to our Moslem brothers and sisters to ensure that they too get the message and knowledge on the importance of the forthcoming event to the society at large.
Dr Etcheri Ansa joined the Moslem family for their Jumat Service at their Ikot Ansa Mosque on Friday during their service hour. Speaking, Dr Ansa educated them on the importance/requirements of the World AIDS day to the society. In her words, "World AIDS Day takes place on 1 December each year. It’s an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, to show support for people living with HIV, and to commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness.
"Globally, there is an estimated 38 million people who have the Virus. Despite the virus only being identified in 1984, more than 35 million people have died of HIV or AIDS, making it one of the most destructive pandemics in history. Today, scientific advances have been made in HIV treatment, there are laws to protect people living with HIV and we understand so much more about the condition."
World AIDS Day is important because it reminds the public and government that HIV has not gone away – there is still a vital need to raise money, increase awareness, fight prejudice and improve education as this is what the CRSG is doing for her people and the Moslem family will not be left aside. The DG charged them to come all out on December 1 and join in the celebration.
